Conceived and organized with the participation of curator Raluca Băloiu, the event is Mirela Iordache’s second individual exhibition at the Carol Galleries, after ENTROPOMORFE, which took place in 2017 in Bucharest.

„In Hegel’s philosophy, the term „anthropogenic” defines the formation of self consciousness, which represents the action of the individual over the self, in order to achieve its conversion into an acquired self. Without the action that transposes the thought into reality, the individual himself cannot transform. The authentic change is achieved on an intimate level, inside our innermost being, and the internal transformation is adapted to an objective, social reality. It is precisely this active intervention onto what is being given to us and what we can transform through our own action, that defines the narrative which Mirela Iordache transposes in her tridimensional works of art. The artist gives depth to the entire anthropogenic process, so that it appears in her works in the form of anthropic relief. Assan’s Mill, the Bragadiru Brewery, the Factory of Santamarie Orlea, the Arteca Factory of Jilava, as well as other industrial spaces and abandoned buildings across the country, are represented as abstract relief. Mirela Iordache places an emphasis on the materialism of the artistic object, which, without its traditional tridimensional props, becomes pure experience and texture, as Clement Greenberg named it, in the terminology he used to define abstract American painting, „all-over painting”. And, perhaps not far from Anselm Kiefer, Mirela Iordache works with dense material, using elements such as dust, concrete leftovers, or bricks, all from the ruins that she researches. Through a kenotic process, Mirela Iordache transposes anguish and trauma into her works of art. People from marginal neighbourhoods and ruins are the themes that she studies and introduces in her works”.

Mirela Iordache’s art works are present in private collections in the USA, Austria, France, Greece, Israel and Romania. The artist took part in national and international competitions, and won the „pArte de Arte” prize, offered by the Criterion Cultural Foundation (2014); she won a nomination at the STRABAG Artaward International (2013), and was a guest at the Triennale Européene de l’Estampe Contemporaine (2013). Among the artistic residencies which she took part in we mention Soleil de l’Est in Le Barcarès, France (2011) and Château de Trousse Barrière, Briare, France (2010). She organized individual exhibitions at the Cantacuzino Castle, Bușteni (2018), the Prahova Regional Art Museum „Ion Ionescu – Quintusˮ, Ploiești (2018), the Visual Arts Museum Galați (2016), Ro-Ge ART Gallery, Augsburg (2010), and the Basil Gallery, Bucharest (2006). She has exhibited her works alongside other artists in museum venues and art galleries: the Cantacuzino Castle, Bușteni, Romania (2019), the National Art Museum of Romania, Bucharest (2018), the Visual Arts Center, Bucharest (2018), the Chalabre Town Hall, France (2018), the National Museum of Romanian Literature (2018), at the Palatele Brâncovenești Cultural Center (2018), Calpe Gallery, Timișoara (2017), AnnArt Gallery (2014), the Maurice Mathurin Gallery, Tours, France (2011) and the OEB, The Hague, Holland (2011).

The ANTROPOGEN exhibition will be on display at the CAROL GALLERIES in ORADEA between the 22nd of March and the 22nd of May 2019.
